The whole feeling of watching the night morph into dawn is something truly magical. Its not just the lights that change, not just the skyline which brightens but its the changes in emotions that makes the whole experience surreal. The Solitude of the football field, marked golden yellow by sodium vapour lamps, accentuating the earth’s orange. White goal posts, standing far apart from each other and the emptiness of the field. The field seems to tell you several journeys of its own. Further into the night, the gregariousness of conversations, of pockets of people and conversations. You drift further into the night, the boisterousness of gangs, of celebrations over alcohol, loud shouts, of merry chants and of the want to forget everything happening around you. The night progresses further, the rush to eat something before dawn catches up. The sky doesnt reveal it yet, but watch tells you that soon its going to come to an end. Walk further into the campus, and to the terrace; of guitar and fine music, of romantic strains and songs of longing and belonging with cold winds and a cloudy sky for company. The sky is already brightening up at the other end. Walk through continues, journey through lives, of new friends, old stories and older truths. Sleep seems a distant companion, its not something you seem to be pining for. You have smoked passively more in the one month here, than ever before. Mellowing of mood soon, its almost bright; the sky is clear blue in color. Dawn has arrived. Along with it the realization of the day ahead. The merriness of the night has vanished. You step outside and walk through the corridors. There is remains of chaos everywhere. Tattered plastics, Assortment of containers - tins, bottles, bottles, spilled liquids, spilled food, assorted smokers’ packs. The night must have been a good companion. You walk across the hostel blocks, back to the solitude of your room. You are fresh as ever. Today is going to be a long day, you tell yourself and proceed to power on your laptop. MSS’ divine voice fills the room, calling on the lord - the merciful to awaken, and bless the day - Suprabhatham. The Day has arrived.

10 power 4

A typical vehicle number plate in India has 4 digits, each of which can take the values from 0 to 9. So how many such numbers are possible? Elementary you would say 10,000. Well therein lies the catch, have you ever seen a number 0000(eg, KA04-S-0000)? Well, just because you havent seen the number doesnt mean it doesnt exist, does it?

You try to drive the point home to a class mate sitting a couple of seats adjacent to you, who fights for all his might claiming that it would be 9999. At this point the professor fumes, and shouts at the group. There does exist a zero, you dont see it because a Shah Rukh Khan pays millions of rupees to get that number.

Well immediately you almost shout. “SRK is a HERO and a HERO will never buy a ZERO”, but you shut your mouth. Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is suppress humor! I bet knutties/sjk/srini/akanksha or anyone at work would vouch for it!

Good Times!

Leave taking

Its strange, the first post that I have to post at this new site is my good bye post from Yahoo! People tend to be excessively sentimental about their first job, why should I be an exception? More so because I have had an awesome time here over the past two years(Oh! I take that numerical liberty! I actual am falling short of 2 years by 10 days)

When I listen to the tales of numerous coding monkeys who jump from one coding assignment to another, from one company to another - I hear tales of Sucky Jobs, tales of Sucky Managers and sh**ty jobs - I wonder if I have been too lucky. An awesome Company! Brilliant People! Great folks to work for! It wouldnt be an exaggeration to say that it was a Dream Run! This is the stuff dreams are made of!

Straight out of College, this place gave me new love - PHP and Free and Open Software! To see people whom you had previously seen only wikipedia - easily amongst the best things I would say!

Work wise - I worked for Yahoo! HotJobs. To be frank when I joined Yahoo! and was told ‘HotJobs’ - I too really didnt know about that company/product/portal, and even I wore that surprised look that some of you would be wearing now. But then enter into Yahoo! and all my misgivings and initial apprehensions set aside, loved every bit of the time that I spent here, learnt things that an university could never teach.

Made great friends here, was mentored by some real cool people, and worked on some of the coolest stuff with some of the brightest minds - The merits of working for in Internet Company. How many of you can see your work live being used by other people - This is something, that I truly love about the internet.

How can I end my post about life at Yahoo! without mentioning about the fun here! The foosball games, bowling , Ping Pong, Cubicle Cricket(which we later moved into a Breakout Area) - some of the best times. The fervour that foosball games produced can not be summarized in words here!

Today is my last working day here, Monday would be the day the formalities would be complete, so technically wouldnt be working on Monday. Thanks to all the folks I ever interacted in the past two years - you guys made life here fun.Too many things that I would miss to be enumerated here.

Bye all! Keep in touch! Yahooooooo!!!!

Good Night and Good Luck!
